The unbreakable link between tradition and modernity has always been a characteristic in the history of the Hausbrandt firm. Martino Zanetti, the company's current owner and sole director, has paid tribute to the place and date of origin in the firm's name: Hausbrandt Trieste 1892.
Following Mr. Zanetti’s instruction, the production center in Nervesa della Battaglia uses the most modern technology – from the silos where the unripe coffee is stored, to the selection, blending, roasting and packing plants where the entire process of coffee preparation is followed with the highest professionalism.
Where technique alone cannot guarantee the achievement of top quality, the dedication, persistence and passion of Mr. Zanetti steps in to assure Hausbrandt a prestigious role in the Italian and international markets.
More than 100 years after its establishment, Hausbrandt now has products in over 15,000 establishments worldwide. Italy, France, Germany, Greece, the United States, Polynesia, New Zealand, Patagonia, Japan, Korea, Australia are among many countries that carry Hausbrandt products.
There is a particular atmosphere along the streets and in the squares of the center of Trieste. You can close your eyes and let yourself be lulled by the intense aroma that seeps from the cafés. You can take in the history marred by the old walls that have witnessed the charm of a rite that was transported from afar to become one of our consecrated traditions. You can let your memory wander freely to follow the invisible thread that reveals how coffee came to assume the universal dimension that it has preserved to this day.
Trieste was the ideal location for founding a culture around coffee. Launched into commercial activities by Marie Therese of Austria at the end of the 18th century, Trieste occupied a strategic position in the Austro-Hungarian commerce and steadily became the fulcrum of Central European culture. Bulk deliveries of the “raw” product arrived in its port then, as today, from the countries of production. It was in this context that Trieste's Coffee Association was founded in 1831, the third in Europe after Hamburg and Amsterdam.
Coffee associations safeguarded the interests of importers, merchants and coffee roasters and to favored the development of new activities. Among the original associates, the name Captain Hermann Hausbrandt stood out. His business intuition unified pride in tradition and the modern industrial techniques and identified him as a pioneer of high quality.
At the end of the 19th century, coffee continued to maintain household dimensions – each family purchased and roasted the green beans according to their needs. A visionary man, Captain Hausbrandt, changed all this when he founded the first “Coffee Roasters of Trieste” in 1892. His project was to market roasted coffee that was ready for use.
Captain Hausbrandt’s strategy was innovative for the time and based on three fundamental elements:
All this enabled the Hausbrandt firm to establish a reputation for quality, to continue investing in avant-garde technology, and to stimulate the passion and professionalism of all those who are connected to the company.
